Re The Petro: It's just a scam really… Government smoke and mirrors… It's not actually backed by anything… More like they "fix" the price according to what they claim are their reserves… More price fixing, actually. And now apparently they'll force that value on merchants…? Ridiculous.

11. Great news for Venezuela. This will help the country recover from the US sanctions which have been destroying the nation's economy. Now if they can only get a handle on the 1% who's restricting manufactured goods from its citizens. Expect to see more nations move in this direction as an attempt to escape from the tyranny which is America, however, my suspicion is America will respond by spreading more Democracy with love bombs and care grenades before its all said and done… such as those C4 drones they sent over earlier this year.

Hi Chris, on the subject of the Petro you didn't mention one fun fact, namely that the new whitepaper has abandoned NEM and it is now a fork of Dash complete with X11 algo, InstantSend, masternodes and some kind of governance. Sadly the Venezuelan government will pre-mine and hold >51% of Petro so it will not be true distributed governance, but I find it interesting that they have copied Dash which is already making inroads into Venezuela. I would love you to dig deeper and give your take on how you think this will affect the uptake of distributed cryptos in Venezuela (particularly Dash) and whether it will be positive or negative for the ecosystem in general. Do you think that they are likely to try to stamp on other cryptos as competition, or embrace them as a means for people to buy Petros with foreign exchange, circumventing sanctions?
