1. Once again, tech people severely underestimate how much default options matter to non-tech people (90% of the people on Earth)

2. If apple switched it to bing, at the very least 80% of iOS and Mac users would keep it that way. The average user won't change it to Google.

   Just look at how many people change it to Google on Windows computers, most people don't care.

3. We might be overestimating how bad Bing is. Personally I have switched from Google to chat gpt when I want specific answers and don't wanna waste time on the reading articles. Microsoft already owns open AI..Bing might actually become the new popular search engine if Microsoft doesn't skypes all over it.

    The world did not end. But it made Apple a lot of money when they switched back to Google! 😂

    I disagree with Marques. Anyone would pay Apple to be the default. A Chinese search engine would probably pay the most if that would fly with the American public.

    Also, the only reason Apple doesn’t build their own is because data monetization is something they stray away from. There would be no reason to build a complex unmonetized product in an SE. Instead let google make their money and pay Apple a share.

15. Break up search … I use Mojeek, Ecosia, Qwant as well Bing … Microsoft tries to bribe You to use Bing… I still avoid it.

21. The other day i had to update Edge on a VM and i opened Edge and typed "edge business download" into address bar, which defaulted to Bing. And first result in Bing was Chrome Enterprise Download page. No, 1 month of everyone on Bing will not help. There is something fundamentally broken in MS regarding search. It shows in all products: Teams, Outlook, Windows search, etc. Now they try to "fix" this by throwing Copilot at it and hoping it won't hallucinate too much..

25. I'm with Marques, there's no need for Google to pay Apple. And I've been saying it for years. (Apple) People would change to Google search on their own.

26. Apple offers also Duckduckgo, which I was choosing as my search Engine for Safari because I'm sick of being traced by Google.

28. Did everyone forgot that there was a time that Bing was the default browser for a little bit? I think it was when google Maps and Youtube were leaving the iPhone as the default as well.

30. With regard to Marques's hot take, his logic of Google not paying could apply to either Apple or MKBHD. Both businesses get paid for traffic to Google. The only slight difference is Marques gets paid for YouTube content and Apple for search engine traffic. His question could be : Is Google wasting money by paying MKBHD for content? After all, where is Marques gonna go? The reality is Google doesn't want anyone considering an Open AI app or Tik Tok as a viable alternative. They will continue to pay both Apple and MKBHD because both make Google a ton of money.
