  1. Some people turn of their computer, because they have the computer connected to the same powerstrip with a switch, that they connect other things on their desk to, so they can turn it all off and save on power. If the new Mac mini does not automatically power on when it gets power, that would be annoying, not saying the old solution was perfect either. Sure you cn have a separate cord just for the Mac mini, and not turn it off.

My experience with mac, is with an older iMac Retina, and with that one, if you look at the dock, there is still the dot on software that wasn't closed before the restart. Looking in process monitoring it doesn't seem to matter a lot. However, with splice, there is a strange thing, where the first restart only shows the dot in the dock, but the second one will open the splice window. So if you intended to fully close splice but did not, upon a restart you will not, unless you look at the dot in the dock, notice that it isn't fully closed. And since you sometimes see the splice windows upon booting up, you might think that is what happens when splice wasn't fully closed.

With the ports on the front, Apple could have easily made a cut-out aluminium power button on the front. But if they don't want you to use it, and then possibly adding boot on power at least as an option, sure, they should have hidden the button, and possibly made it a restart/reset button… but if they put it underneath, it should have been on the front. They could have addd touch ID as well on it, or a separate on the other side, to enable secure login.

And don't fully agree with the issue if you have your computer built in, becuse the airflow needs, should limit building it in, to such an extent that you should probably be able to reach it. However, if you have very precise cable management, there is a risk, that when reaching, you pull a bit on the computer, and then it can be very annoying to reach to reconnect.

I did not realize that the front ports were USB 3 only, thought they were USB 4, well then that isn't great.

I am not as critical about pricing, I think 512GB should have been standard as 256 is a bit on the lower end, for software installs, and files you need locally, especially if you are going to use the computer for a few years. But even with 512GB it is still a pretty good price for the kind of computing power you get, but you are getting very close to where it doesn't make sense to get the M4 base and not the M4 pro instead. But I think most people should get the m4 pro. Depending on what software you are using, it may not be able to utilize of fully utilize the E-cores, so there can be a much bigger jump in terms of performance, even compared to what benchmarks will tell you. And you do get TB5.
But yes, apples pricing on storage and RAM, is insane. So the value proposition goes down quickly. But considering the price, the M4 pro with 24GB of RAM (baseline for pro), and 512GB of storage is a highly powerful computer, and with external NVME drive over USB 4 or Thunderbolt, you can solve the storage issue, without losing too much performance and without paying too much in an overprice for the storage. It isn't cheap, though, but you get a lot of power to do a lot of tasks on your computer.

  2. Why wouldn't you shut off you pc every day? In this day and age where everyone has a ssd it doesn't really matter. Pca startup fast anyway.

  3. apple has completely removed ability to run the third-party applications on their computers, unless they are signed by apple.
To compile and run you apps on your computer you will need to buy a developer subscription.

  4. On windows if you want to actually shutdown your pc (where it properly clears everything and actually shuts down) hold shift while you click shutdown.

  5. Ellis knows what's up with the flavored Tootsie Rolls. Vanilla is the best. Also, mixing the vanilla with the orange is next level.

  6. How funny! I was just looking to replace my HP. And no you're right, there's not. There's like three hps and a lenova and then this one you're talking about

  7. Theoretically, big fan of getting the Nintendo music I like for free on my phone included in a subscription I already pay for.

    The problems are numerous though.
    – Comically limited game selection, not just for old tracks but even modern ones
    – all of their music is and always will be on YouTube until YouTube itself does something about it or Nintendo starts suing people
    – It's kind of a pain in the ass to have all of my other game soundtracks on Spotify but I have to specifically go to Nintendo's app for their music. I use game music for studying and background music for D&D and would just look a Nintendo song up on YouTube if I so desperately wanted to play it.

  8. 50:52 also, don't forget that thunderbolt can daisychain (or used to), that's sharing a bus, but still better than nothing. Just put your keyboard and such in the daisy chained bits.
