  1. I think the Idea has potential. My hope was that it is just a small local llm. I think you guyses view has a bit been skewed by all the negative potentials of something like this. The movie scene is very biast towards that. There are a lot of books who explore also the positive potential for personal AI assistants, think the only positive one I remember in movies is Jarvis from Iron Man.
This is always framed on YT as ā€žyou have to be sad and alone to like thisā€œ. But I donā€˜t think the potential of such AI is in replacing your friends, but in having an ā€žentityā€œ that is about your live. A kind of pet that can talk, like that robot dog on dr who maybe. I think most people will be able to separate this ā€žrelationshipā€œ from irl relationships. This to me is similar to a ā€žNintendogā€œ if you remember that game.

  2. Soon as I saw the ad I know Marques and his folks were gonna have a field day with this one. This device is PLAIN STUPID!!!!

  3. I completley get the point. Who doesn't want a "person" you can confide in and just talk to that is infinitely smarter. Yes there are definite red flags to consider. But I find myself using chatgpt and wanting it to act more and more like an actual person. I see this being the norm. I just want to be able to ask my questions and have the a.i. answer instantly. EXACTLY like "Her". And if it can be the scar jo voice they removed form chatgpt even better!

  4. I can see how it was gonna always be innevitable since voice Assistants rising but now I'd have to say it's getting silly we want ai stuff to help us do things easier not be our friend why tf would you want a non human thing to be your friend how weird can you get as a human

  5. About as sad as the life size barbie dolls from years ago. Fortunately, they're just trying to sell a company instead of making something anyone really needs.

  6. AI friends will prove invaluable to the aging Baby-boomer generation. Prior to AI agents (friends) tens of thousands of elderly people lived alone with poor health and diet care, slowly declining in mental health due to loneliness. Many died due to neglect. AI friends will remind the elderly to take their medications, to go outside for fresh air/nature, monitor their vital signs and contact family members and healthcare providers. They will also ask questions, make uplifting comments, read them books, and make them laugh.

  7. I have to say, I am truly disappointed with what "AI" has turned out to be. From dumb chat bots to creepy ass art to fake videos, oh yeah, and marketing nonsense. I guess in Healthcare, it is useful as a diagnostic tool šŸ˜ and then, of course, the military šŸ«”

  8. Oh my God if they have people outside talking to themselves when Iā€™m trying to take a peaceful hike. Itā€™s bad enough thereā€™s people on their phone in the grocery store or people that canā€™t use their AirPods listening to music. I donā€™t need one more thing where people can be noisy. Iā€™ve missed phones in peoples homes where I didnā€™t have to hear their conversations.

  9. This is another physical gadget that is hard pressed to answer why a new hardware device is called for in order to deliver whatā€™s being promised. Most of what they demonstrate is already possible with a phone. And what is new could easily be accommodated by extending the reach of the phone in your pocket. This is all entirely separate from concerns about the deviceā€™s utility, security and longevity.

  10. we're trying to make elderly assistance devices for young people…more thinking needs to happened. Also whats the real differences between this and having your phone do the same thing via an app since we're already allowing it to access our privacy.
