If the data is available publicly, which in this case it is, then I don't see the problem. If a human is allowed to learn things based on this free content, then why can't a computer? If it were locked behind a paywall, that'd be a different story, but it's not.

regarding the auto-generated captions, I actually find theyre often MORE accurate than the ones provided by the uploader. Too many channels just plop their script into it and dont check that it matches what theyre actually saying. and have you SEEN the captions that big news channels provide for their YT uploads?? completely unusable if youre not 100% deaf because theres like a 5 second delay. also some creators contract out for subtitles and these services make lots of mistakes with slang or inside joke kind of things. i go out of my way to select the auto-generated captions, theyre also less in the way because theyre displayed off to the side, not right in the middle covering content.
sorry to nit-pick such a little thing, but wanted to share my experience with it! honestly was just excited to have a reason to rant about YT captions at someone so thank you lol
