  1. Woah. This video took me by surprise, I must say. The Verge has taken a huge leap in quality of the script and production with this one. This is Tested-level of data with MKBHD production values and consumer-friendliness. Very impressive.

  2. “The best I’ve ever seen, but not perfect” and “The best anyone has ever made ‘in there’ look, but it’s still not as good as ‘out here’” are the best ways to describe this headset. It’s extremely impressive (especially for a first generation product), and good at doing everything it needs to, but definitely has room for improvement. I think the best addition might be a controller like the Quest. I’m excited to see where this product line goes, and I’m excited to demo one someday. It looks beautiful.

Thank you to The Verge and Nilay Patel for this extremely high-production review, I will definitely keep an eye out for your review of whatever Apple makes next.

  3. I only got through a third of this and have to say, this review is BRILLIANT. Very well thought out, scripted, filmed and delivered. Amazing job, look forward to the remaining 66% of the video later today!

  4. As an avid VR enthusiast, this was an excellent review and Mr. Patel seems to have a great understanding of the state of VR hardware. Well done!

  5. Guess i'll stick with the Quest 3 for a while. FIXED CABLE (bruh) for the battery, small FOV, no motion controllers and an extremely limited OS for almost 4 grand. Pathetic.

  6. Hate to be that guy, but I don't think Apple's UI for the homescreen or whatever is entirely original. Sure, it's close to Launchpad on MacOS or Apple TV, but it's just like the PSVita from 2011…

  7. 27:19 oooohhh OOOOHHHHHHHHHHH wait wait wait, i think i got the message……. it took a few seconds and a second watch, but the tone and the stare sent the message loud and clear.

And….. yeah…… i don't think many people tought about that, but when they'll do… they won't be very much at ease with THAT, lol. Thank you for head up!

  8. Good review! This whole thing has the first Generation feel where you see where they want to go but this had to exist first.
Regarding lonliness, I felt that way with the Quest 2. I thought it would be super fun but it turned out that I just felt like I was excluding my wife and kid from whatever I was doing and even with mirroring, we didn't have as much fun with is as I had originally hoped we would.

  9. Okay, but I’ve literally seen that kind of artifact on digital clocks many times. It’s not just a camera issue. Try shaking your head back and forth while looking at one.

  10. "never looked at my mouse" .. that is the most nonsense comparison of all.. You look at EVerYTHING before you click.. not the mouse .. the screen.. it's the same thing

  11. I honestly enjoyed the review but I do have two major complaints. First, a game controller input wasn't used while a keyboard and mouse were and I was a little curious about a controller's overall role and usability. It would have been nice to see since Apple stated this type of input was a go from day one. Second, a lot of comparisons were made to the Occulus and other VR devices but there were no comparisons made to other actual spatial computing devices like the Microsoft HoloLens 2 or the Varjo XR-3 in terms of the tech and the cost.

  12. I was initially dead set on buying one at release but I’m glad I held off. I’m going to wait a year or two at least, to see what devs do with it — if any killer apps and games might change the value equation.

  13. I normally enjoy reading the reviews on the website but this video single-handedly made me subscribe to the The Verge’s YouTube channel. I hope moving that this level of production is able to seep through into their more common reviews !
