  1. Same thing happened with the Surface devices and the 2-in-1 laptop market. Or the tablets market from the beginning. Their not trying to be mainstream but adopted and slowly grow in sales. That's gonna take time. Once tech it's there and isn't as expensive I can see a lot of people going for them

  2. Short answer no
Long answer foldables are step one in an experimental era or engineering for phones
A lot of the company’s we know have had these wild concepts for the last 15-16 years the question for them isn’t can it be made it’s can it be made great and can the market accept it at a rate that it pushes the development of them down

Do I belive foldables are the future no
Why the last major change in smart phones (the phablet) is just now becoming main stream phablets debut 6 years ago and the argument then as it is now why get such a massive screen when you have a tablet …
the software hasn’t fought up to snuff to offer a bigger screen then a phablet … let alone a folding one
I think dual screen phones like the duo may be dead in the water too but it is a nice form factor change in a sea of look alike phones

  3. I have the Z fold 2 it's a really nice device. I love it but it isn't for everyone. The technology is new and very expensive. Not the easiest sell right now with regular smartphones being as good as they are. But it's a great device for tech enthusiasts

  4. Even though I strongly don’t like Samsung devices with a passion anymore I must admit that their foldable design is kinda cool on the Z model and the Motorola Razr could have been a little bit better.

  5. Foldables AND rollables are the future.

Each have their pros and cons. Neither of those two form factors make the other one obsolete.

  6. I think folding phones will have a niche share but I have not been convinced many of us want them. However, what we have seen so far are rather sub-par efforts for a roadmap forwards. The main one is obviously the Galaxy Z-Fold, and that is a flawed design that will no way dictate how the market moves forward. It is big and bulky with a gap and a terrible aspect-ratio making media consumption a crap experience when folded out. The Surface Duo is a bad idea and that form-factor looks DOA. I like OPPO's rolling screen, and the Mate Xs looks a great design but needs folding glass for it to be more durable.

As we see with the market forces, apart from those with money to burn, no one is really buying the Fold and it loses value as we have never seen before. Even new Folds are selling for £600 off after a few months and a year-old Fold 1 has lost 75% of its initial price (what sane person would buy a year old folding device?).

So, no they are not the future as they are now, but maybe an OEM will come up with a much better design that will change that.

  7. I think that rollable phones like the new Oppo X are a far more elegant and practical solution…….and no crease!
