4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TWITCH STREAM TODAY! https://www.twitch.tv/thrilluwu Also, what do you think? I found this topic to be extremely interesting and I wanted to extend the conversation about "what is too real in a game" to VR.
Much love! Have a great Tuesday!
i support it all the way jut think of it like SAO in the anime they we ported to a world that to them look just as real as the real world this is a step to that for us so to me im down and i have no issues i mean who hasnt dreamed of being able to travel to a different world that looks real but isnt its an escape from our everyday life that gets boring so we want something different.
How about the ethics of bad YouTubers like you
I think you shouldn't do things in games that you would never do in real life.
I feel like I'm the only person still holding onto the hope that any day now some breakthrough in brain-computer interfaces will come through that will allow for some possible type of lucid-dreaming VR; though I know that's still pure sci-fi at this point unfortunately. If it could be done, it would fix all the immersion-related problems with 'normal' vr like having a limited area to walk around in and having to carry several devices on you.
What I more fear is that someday some game developer make a VR game about something terrbile could record that in VR and trick everyone it could be reality. Like deepfake and voice cloning, it's all fun of course when these are cool games, but people could do something bad with it. Sadly everything is a tool that can be used for good and bad.
I think being fully immersed in a VR environment and thinking it's real is a totally different situation. No matter how immersed I felt in a VR game, I've never mistaken what was going on for reality. I've played games like Resident Evil 7 in VR, and it's very scary. But… I always know I can just remove the headset. I get very scared due to anticipation, but I don't fear for my life.
Knowing that what I am shooting is not a real person, is a completely different thing (for the average person)
Skyrim VR has now built in chat got for novs
Unrecord is another mortal Kombat. We've been building towards photorealism in real-time rendering tech for decades. What did you think was gonna happen?
Anyone saying it's morally wrong should learn that no matter how "realistic" fiction LOOKS it isn't reality and that's the end of it.
No such thing as too real in video games, in my opinion the more real the better because I so want my hyper realistic SAO video game just like the anime because I want to cry in fear when fighting a hyper realistic giant boss that scares me half to death.
The realistic vr will be great to see places people can't go ..like the pyramids of Egypt
In VR I'm used to really blocky and low resolution textures, so something even remotely close to this would be amazing
6:55 I have wanted to be able to see realism in a game for many many years. This level of hyper realism as you say it is why I'm so interested in the headsets in the first place. Alot of these games on here look like a kid made the game for the most part, I want my mind to second guess its self hey is this real or not. I want that level of realism to understand hey do I remember what real life is like.
i got my first headset shortly after BeatSaber launched. i played it for a year or so. got a few other games, went deep into Elite Dangerous for another year or so. but it now sits in my closet in the box it came in. where it will stay until i decied to ebay it for $100 if im lucky. after actually seeing how low rez it actually was, im holding out for better dive features and to have pixel density high enough where i cannot distinguish one from another.
All I can say – we're wandering into "Fun" territory.
Cant wait for the Quest 3! The only reason my Quest 2 is on the shelf are weight and sweat… HYPE
Hi Thrillseeker, could you possibly give me any insight into when a stand alone PC VR headset with Pancake lenses could be released? Other than Bigscreen, as for me that FOV would be just too small. As a sim racing I'm either resigned to older tech with frenel lenses, or all in one newer headsets that compress the image, and for sim racing this just looks jagged, glistening, and basically not immersive. The dashboard is always beautiful somehow, whereas outside mostly runs smooth but looks like Minecraft. I've had near monitor VR clarity and refresh rate with the Reverb G2 V2, but the fov and sweet spot in that headset is terrible. If you could help, or make any content for the sim community who just want PC VR, usually to replace triple monitor set ups, that would be super helpful. Is there anything with a wide fov, pancake lenses to the quality level of Quest Pro, a refresh rate anywhere 120hz upward, light and comfortable coming in the near future for sim gamers just wanting direct to PC display port connection devices. Its a missed market. 20% of Quest Pro users play on Steam, that's a lot of people. Thank you in advance for any valuable advice or information. Best Regards Ryan
Yes it is a silly conversation. There should be no limits as long as you are wearing a VR Headset to witness this hyperrealistic VR. Not only it shouldnt be limited…something like this is the actual purpose of VR.
I'd love to shoot NOT REAL people in that hyper realistic game
Possible QOW: VR has been another opportunity for gaming peripherals to surface again. What kind of peripherals would you like to see or believe will be developed say 5 years from now?
I feel ultra realistic VR is not really that bad of a thing, if a person who plays those hyper realistic fps games at some point does it in real life then that isn't the game or the graphics fault, it'd be the person who did it. And lets say there's a person who is given trauma from to much super real looking VR horror game, well you should always know your limits when doing stuff like horror, that person should have stopped before when it was already too scary. I don't think it's a issue of realism, I think it's an issue with us as people, and these issuses are not around the corner, they're already (and were) here.
as a quest 2 steamvr player I can confidently say that it's a big step up from my old rift S and cheaper than the rift s was too
How real is too real? My brother in christ, even if it looks and sounds like real life that doesn't mean it IS real life. We've been having this exact conversation for DECADES. People still blame games like CoD for things like mass killings because of blood, gore, firearm use, etc. If you can't distinguish what is real from what is fake, that's not an issue with the game that's an issue with your psyche and you should definitely talk to a professional about experiencing symptoms of delusions/hallucinations.
Soon, we will not be able to distinguish between reality and virtual reality.
Same ethics as paintball or airsoft. It's fine…
What do you mean you don't know? Thought you knew better than to be fence-sitter on the 'violent games' hysteria which this 'too real' nonsense is just another incarnation of. It's all just polygons and pixels.
as a long time vr enthusiast I say the more realistic and immersive the better.
Hyper realistic gore movies can be watched at the theator, terrible true stories based shows about murderers are being streamed on almost everyone's TV through plateforms.
I don't believe there is an ethical issue with the idea of watching a hyper realistic murder in VR, it's not hurting anyone and people that are influenced (in the wrong way) by this type of content would probably be a part of another conversation more related to mental health and past trauma.
I would love to have realistic assets in games, in VR. Being able to create heavily detailed 3D scenes would be amazing for artists of all kind.
doing cuestionable stuff in hiper realistic vr has noting worng in my opinion. personally i am more worried this technology being used to create fake evidense or propaganda.
Great video, thank you! Congratulations on your 4 years anniversary! Keep up the great work! I enjoy your channel very much.
Why don't you daily drive the Varjo headsets if you have them?
Serious comment though.. I’m all for hyper realism and hyper immersion, but for the love of god PLEASE, just give me like beautiful places, strange alien worlds, tropical locations, mountain tops.. hell, give me a backpacking sim.. no guns, no gore (ok, maybe a pistol to fend of bears) I just want to explore gorgeous and exotic places in VR! At the very least, give me something like a 1st person Breath of the Wild but hyper realistic and VR.
They’re gonna have to start putting orange tips on those guns 😂
oh wow
I mean looking from the perspective of dreams and lucid dreaming. That all feels and looks just like real life sometimes. Whatever happens and whatever you do or someone else does in a dream can also effect your waking life for many people. So hyperrealistic vr might as well…

Happy 4th Birthday!
Man I would honestly love a VR, hyper-realistic Fallout game. Lets face it, the potential is amazing!
All the sacked Meta workers need to join forces and start a new company called AteM VR ( Ate Em/Meta Backwards) so when they start publishing great independent titles, they can say they ate Meta for lunch. Number 1 policy of the company, Not Able to be bought out. Must stay independent.
My dad always very very aggressively told us as kids "Video games, Music, and Movies are ENTERTAINMENT not real life" Good advice but you gotta keep saying it.
As always a great video. Congratulations on 4 years!
Unrecord + horror genre = RIP
Agree with everything you said. The amount of money they have spent, and the talent they have absorbed is STAGGERING… All of it, a complete waste.
Think about this: GTA V cost somewhere in the ballpark of 125 million dollars to make.. That's an unbelievably high cost, but compared to the budget Meta has spent on XR as a whole, it's crumbs.. They could have refocused and made 5 100 million dollar titles a year…. That's half a billion spent per year, that would give us a real banger every 2 months or so… They could hire thousands of people and letting them go at known IPs for a few years… They had enough money to make games that rival or surpass what's elsewhere. Stuff that would make console gamers go "oh damn.. That's some AAA stuff right there.. Damn.." Like how a segment of PC gamers ran out and bought a Switch when Breath of the Wild came out..
What do we get? Garbage, nice indie games, more garbage, cool indie thing, garbage, garbage Contractors, garbage garbage, The Wii version of RE4, garbage garbage garbage garbage… Wowzer… Now the people from other platforms will surely come along for the ride…
Do you think they spend more than 100 million a year doling out cash to devs out there? Why did Splinter Cell get shut down when Meta is sitting on a pile of gold, they could have said "would 10 million dollars help? Also, here are a few guys from the Onward team to help you with X Y Z" to Ubi at any time… But nah, nope. "Here, come to garbage town! The metaverse of 1994! We spent somewhere around 2 billion dollars on this, impressed?" G A R B A G E !
The waste of money is just MINDBLOWING. What did we get hardware wise? We're going to get a Quest Pro light this year.. What's new for gamers? Lenses. That's it. Billions spent, new glass. Hardly even a resolution bump. BILLIONS SPENT.
God damn.. I set myself off… Anyone know of a soothing tea without caffeine?
