   And for any native speakers, I don't know the hirigana spellings and I barely understand how Kanji works so forgive me if I ballsed up any details. I'm writing this comment with a beginner's understanding of Japanese.

   From what I can understand their solution to this issue was to create a preferred pronunciation of 4 which is "yon" (I don't know the Hirigana for yon) although interestingly the Japanese word for square is " Shi kaku ".
