There 85 USD are other fold up eBike (obviously won't fit in your backpack) that are compact and light enough to carry on a bus. “The one” by United City Bike (misleading – re branded from Song of youth CFD-2 by Jaunty) has a 16” wheel base, single gear (1:4) and when folded ( $1,086 AUD $842 USD converted) 74cm x 24cm x 50cm at 14kg (27lb), gross 16.5kg. I found other smaller folds but they have a 12" or 14" wheel and maybe too slow and far harder to peddle (beware take into account of crank diameter – it may feel like peddling a kids bike). I am short and weigh 57kg, so these bikes fits me and may not suite you if you plan to add shopping on top of the weight. Though if you want an ebike similar but has 3 gears is the Xiaomi QiCYCLE (international version, do not get the china version), this has a torque sensor (utilising strain gauges) and will not lag like the (magnetic) cadence sensor when you use the pedal assist, it will give you that bike feel and wont lag or feel jerky / thrashing when you take off from stand still. In reviews QiCycle has a flaw that when you pedal very hard you hear a click due to one side of the crankshaft where the bearing sleeve is made of plastic tooth, slipping under heavier pedalling. To correct this problem one needs to purchase various tools revealed in “Pimp my QiCycle'' youtube vid to fix this minor flaw. The QiCycle is 14.5 kg, 16” wheel, but the sad part is it is not as compact as the Jaunty, QiCycle folded is at 100 x 65 x 45 cm but costs $899 AUD ($697 USD converted). A You tuber has revealed that it is difficult to carry as it tends to unfold itself and also the way it folds up is not space saver.

   What you pay is what you get, there has to be compromises in build quality / performance. If you want better and got the $$, Brompton (folds better), Carbo, Vello, Furo X or Flyt has the build quality with user experience in mind. Sadly all the light folding affordable eBikes that are compact enough to travel as carry-on luggage that fits in your suitcase appears to be all single gear. If anyone finds an light eBike, folded down to 70cm (27.5 inches) or smaller for under $2k AUD ($1,550 USD), less than 17 kg (37lbs) with 3 gears or more, please leave a comment. (Yes I am aware at 70cm (22 inches) it far exceeds the standard D size.) I know there are cheaper eBikes but  due to the weight, the fabrication is either steel or aluminum which can reach the 32kg mark. This will certainly hurt the old injured back muscles. Noticed carbon fiber bikes start to hit the $3k to $4k AUD mark, will take a lot of short shifts.

   Other lightish or not so light affordable fordable bike are:
   1. Jupiter Discovery x5, it has rear suspension and spring seat with 350W motor for a comfortable ride, this one stands out with a chain protection that functions as a wheel. Has 16" wheel, folds to 30" x 15" 21" (76cm x 38cm x 53cm), 40lbs (18kg), $795 USD $1,024 AUD.
   2. Fiido D2S $656 USD, $920 AUD, 16" wheel, 6 gears, 250W motor, rear suspension, folded 75cm x 65cm (29" x 25"), 19.5kg (43lbs)
   3. Zhengbu K6 $1,290 AUD $985 What stands out is it's Graphene Battery, known for its fast charge of 2hrs. 16" wheel, 17kg (37lbs), folds to 84cm x 60cm x 63cm (33" x 23.5" x 25"), front/rear suspension, 400W motor, down hill self charging.
