  1. the only problem w midrange and non-flagships is software updates, when you look at how much phone you’re getting over the years with a flagship, it’s a better investment than getting a midrange phones, idk I think it’s cheaper to buy a well rounded flagship which will last for a number of years (looking at iPhone) than to buy midrange phones continually

  2. I bought a $70 Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ from 2015 and it outperforms my $225 LG Stylo 5 from 2019. Installed an Android 10 Custom ROM on it and it runs even better. Not all old flagships are worse than current midrange phones.

  3. Couldn't have been more eager to watch with that title ? Love this topic
1.) The moto g5 plus could shoot 4k with Oreo update, FYI.
2.) I'm not sure I'm tracking. I feel like you said we don't need to buy old flagships because 1.) the k20 and xiaomi note 8 are really good. And 2.) you had some bad buys on ebay…? Is the old flagship market any less saturated there in your country? And I thought you could also make a case that cheap Android makers seem like they're supporting their phones longer than Samsung's and LG's flagships.
Here in the US, we don't have any Xiaomi, Huawei, or Realme so the argument doesn't hold as much water. Plus, here in the States, we have Swappa instead of just eBay to use. Much more reliable. An LG G7 goes for $150 in good used condition. I'd still pick that over a note 8. WDYT? Either way, old flagships still reign supreme here in the States cause we have nearly 0 decent budget/midrange offerings and Android flagships seem more abundant than ever. I think a large reason for US not having more budget/mid-range options is because so many people buy flagships and get rid of them, the mid-range market gets smothered by the secondary market… The SG Note 9 is going for under $300! Crazy stuff imo
    Love the ideas, keep'em coming!

  4. Um……you know that you can buy affordable phones on Ebay in "Brand New" condition, right? Otherwise, nice commentary video. Keep it up! 🙂

Yes, nowadays you can get a brand new "budget flagship" or "flagship class" midrange phone for $300-$500. Here are some prime examples:
    > Realme X2 Pro & K20 Pro (up to $470, both with the SD855+)
    > Oneplus 6T & Mate 20 (SD845/Kirin 980, now ~$450)
    > Poco F1 & P20 Pro (SD845/Kirin 970, now ~$300)
    > Pixel 3a & Moto G8 Plus (SD660/665, both $250-$300)

  5. List of new flagship/midrangers that are small:

    Galaxy s10e/s10
    Huawei P30
    Xiaomi Mi 9 SE

I can't imagine any other phone to buy, and since the s10e/p30 is only a small jump from the mi 9 SE, it's a no brainer to go for a flagship instead.

  6. I do agree with this video a lot….
BUT people like me that want USB3.1 and HDMI out over USB-C, all the LTE bands used in the US, microSD, 4k60 video, and enough performance for video editing, will still buy (and need) flagships as they really do have everything.

  7. I have a 1+6T and it's chugging along just fine! I would love to upgrade because I love shiny new toys but then I think about all the new trends like unwanted 5G, curved screens, ever increasing display sizes, and ever fragile glass and I can't be bothered to upgrade. I'm happy to stay with my phone for 3+ years at this point.

  8. A couple months ago I upgraded my Redmi 5 Plus to a Mi 9. Got it for around 390€, and man, it was a good buy. I absolutely love it and since then 4 of my friends have bought the same exact phone.

  9. Watching from my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 that has ads built into the OS, horrible carrier coverage, a slow update cycle with anemic security patches and literally no ability to watch hd content on major streaming apps.

  10. i just bought an old stock (or it could be a refurb) og pixel xl to replace my old op3, yes i know they're about the same specs and release year but i was just looking to get a phone that still has decent battery life because my op3 is getting worse, barely 2 hours of sot. it was also cheap like $90. the issue about this phone is the screen is worse than my op3 and it's also thicker in hands. Not to mention headphone jack and nfc are not working on mine. so, i already sent it back to the seller and hoping to get the 3a or maybe if on limited budget i'm just gonna get the mi a3. i only like bare minimum aosp or pixel like software so the choice is quite limited.

  11. Each time I watch Ryan's videos about old/oldish flagships I start to appreciate more my OnePlus 5T that I own since April '18. Looking forward for the major update to Android 10 planned in Q2 this year. The phone runs as smooth as when I got it.

    Cheers mate!

  12. The only flagships I've bought in the past are the Samsung Galaxy S2, iPhone 4 and 5. All used. Sticking to my 2015 mid-range Galaxy J5. All the smartphones I've bought have been between £70 to £130.

  13. Midrangers literally have the same specs than the flagships, the Mi 9T Pro has the snapdragon 855, hell, I even overclocked the screen and you can run at 90hz it's basically a OnePlus 7T on steroids for less than half the price…

  14. Midrangers are better because they surprise you. When you spend 1000 dollars on a phone there are no surprises. It better be the absolute best of the best for that money. Which in my mind is dull. I want a phone where Everytime I look at it I'm proud. Like I can't BELIEVE I got all of this for that price. That's the real bragging rights.

  15. I guess if you need power you should search smth like the idea of poco f1. I mean mi9t pro , realme x2 pro , one plus 7 etc. That is the best value for money in terms of performance and price. Midrangers are cheap but if you need proccesing power and a healtier power managemant i would still search some highend proccesor. But you're right..you should not necessarly buy older devices

  16. These budget phones usually have terrible software optimisations. The best example is the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2.. It has so many bugs..such a shame, it could've been a great phone. How is the realme X2 Pro's software for a long term user(2 years) and not as a reviewer(2-3 months)?

  17. I used to get more mid range devices I had the mi max 2, Lenovo p2 and xiaomi mi a2 the problem was always gaming especially the a2 it stuttered and crashed when playing mortal kombat which happened a lot less with my one plus 6.
