Cryptocurrency generally saw a great move when BTC rose from 3.5k to 6k without any hindrance. Perhaps the institutional investors where buying at the time.

At the end of the day, the only thing that can stop it, is "we the people" our selves. Nothing else can stop it, but the masses.
The biggest thing that is stopping BTC from getting to 100K is the volatility which is caused by the traders who constantly pull the rug out from Bitcoin before it rises significantly.
