1. They could have used time travel to bring back everyone who died fighting. As soon as you go down that road everything that happens in the story lacks credibility.

    The funeral scene is, and i'm sorry to those who believe in such institution, is a formal thing where you have to follow a protocol and, in a limited way, you are able to show emotion.

    This scene, on the other hand, is a genuine homage, from his wife and all his allies, to the man that saved all of them and died doing so! This is the real cerimony!
