Its better to buy a break out over buying when you not know what BTC or other alts are doing. A break out is a confirmation for a up trend. Not need to buy the bottom or the top but buy the break out and take % and wait for a pull back. Do not be greedy and be happy with 10-20% profit.
I too got in 2017 but i sold at 20k i made my profit and still in the market
