If you have recently received a very small amount of BTC in your wallet unexpectedly, you may be the target of a "dusting attack" designed to deanonymise you by linking your inputs together – Samourai users can mark this utxo as "Do Not Spend" to nip the attack in the bud. pic.twitter.com/23MLFj4eXQ

Hi Ivan 0.5+1+1.8 = 3.3
Damm, best technical show ever. Now I not only understand the dusting attack but I actually understand how $BTC transactions are constructed and used. Tx!
will you be doing a new video on holochain when holo fuel goes live?
The way I deal with those threats is that I will reveal my nuts to the public myself LOL
WTF I got no idea. But think it must be a way for someone to add one of your receiving addresses to their wallet while somehow disabling it from yours.
You caught me. I've been lurking.
Wouldn't this be a problem for anyone sending you bitcoin? Not just dusting attacks.
With this atack, how they will track you and send an message? hmm very strange…
So what do you do in case this attack happens, lets say on a hardware wallet?
does ledger nano able to mark this dust attack transaction and make sure ledger wallet live never spends this transaction? how do you do this (never spent) on the blockchain.
staubwedel171285…..Fuck off you scamming piece of shit.
Interesting….this seems not much different than when CoinBase "prompts" you to "save" your wallet addresses when you withdraw your bitcoin. This always concerned me so I don't save them. It seems that there will always be a way to "track" people. I don't understand why ALL Bitcoin transactions are not "tumbled" together in some way to aid in anonymity. I think the main problem will ALWAYS BE that if man can make it – Man Can Break It.
Great info here! Thanks Ivan!
Hmmmm….any reason why government authorities could utilise this attack???
But doesn't e-wallets that have different sending addresses protect You automatically? The utxo that you received is then only added to your crypto balance but when sent out it is through a fresh address. Eg. Trust has disposable receiving addresses so nothing is revealed even if it could be back-tracked..?
The whole crypto space is still FAR too complicated for the average person to be able to use, especially towards mass adoption, and I simply cannot see this happening, not for a long, long, LONG time, unless they simplify this process to a much greater extent.
Bitcoin is currently my most favorite thing and i completely love the technology behind it out of which has spewed several other coins. I know its quite unclear for many how lucrative bitcoin is currently as most people have lost several thousands of dollars already in holding their coins. In my case, i have earned thousands by following a less talked about approach which is trading. Trading is less affected by the speculative and unpredictable nature of cryptocurrency and with the right techniques and expertise, you can easily earn so much when others are actually making loses in an unstable market. There are several ways to make consistent profit but the safest and easiest from my personal experience would be using the guidance, signals and already proven trade strategies of a successful trader. Quite a few of them but my favorite would always remain Julius Gregesen. I was able to easily triple my portfolio in just 3 weeks of trading with him. It would be only fair for me not to hide such a gem in the space. You can reach him on juliusgregesn7@gmailcom and ask him pretty much anything about trading and how he can help you become a better and more profitable trading of cryptocurrency. The best part of it all is his system is really easy to implement and i have learnt a lot already from him
Damn, I'm a long time follower of this channel and loved it but for the past year it's just clickbait over clickbait , come on dude …
So what about people who receive legit donations or payments? Wouldn't this tracking danger be the case not only for dust but for any received transaction? For example, whoever pays someone could be an attacker?
stained cup, unsubscribed.
I was feeling dumb until you said 0,5+1,0+1,8=3,2
he is promoting gambling websites…he is the worst…he just promotes and promotes and promotes on this channel!!
3 mins of bs
Nice on, Ivan! Thanks for always being so consistent!
You are such an inspiration to me, you make me want to do something with my life, thank you !
Samourai wallet might even be the source of the dust attacks, just to get more users….. think about it…… it would be an ingenious marketing.
HODL
Very well explained… thanks.
Thanks Ivan. So sorry to miss the N.Y meet up. Unfortunate tragedies of personal nature keep arising. I will be catching up and contributing in 5 days or so. Thanks for presenting these important videos so I can catch up and then keep up. I appreciate it Ivan very much.
Your explanation of the attack doesn't make any sense. If you create a single transaction from multiple outputs and addresses, you don't need any additional dust to know that both are owned by the same user. You can see that clearly on the blockchain since both are in one transaction. How would the dust help at all? Either way you'll see that both addresses are in one transaction.
Instead of not spending it, one can simply learn how to use coin control features. Every decent wallet should have this.
Use the dust with only utxos from the same address. In fact, make it a habit never to use utxos from multiple addresses if you really value privacy. And consolidate utxos when they become too small to use.
Actually not spending the particular utxo solves NOTHING. So long as you spend other utxos from that address with utxos from your other addresses, the attacker can still track your address. In fact, I don't see why they should even send you anything. They can just choose to track specific addresses and see what other addresses they mix with.
Is this a theoretical attack vector or has anyone actually tried it? It sounds both expensive and ineffective
If the world really paid attention to this clown nobudy would be holding bitcoin or any crypto by now. This wanna be debeloper is so frustrated by the fact that he is not part of the elite bitcoin developers that he wants to destroy. But guess what parasited , the real bitcoin developer can find any problem way before you. So take a hike
Which wallets enable coin control with trezor ?
IVAN: Attack UTXO are like spam emails that place an identifier marker where they can find when, how and where the crypto was transacted (like an identifying marker – ie, metadata)– Samourai will see this and alert you so you don't use it in your transactions. You have the option to use the attack UTXO at your own risk to unmask yourself but it's common sense just to ignore the DUST attack.. — That's what I learned today
Ivan, How can we get a job in Europe after having learned about crypto? I'm still a newbie. it's difficult to get the bigger picture.
I have smashed the likes.
Snaps fingers! Really? No wonder nobody takes crypto seriously.
Jamie’s back!
And thankfully he didn’t start spouting his SJW bullshit!
I watch the videos at 2x to make Jamie quicker. ?
Many wallets allow you to lock a UTXO, in currencies that have masternodes you lock the collateral UTXOs to prevent accidentally spending them…. You could lock the dust for a long time and only spend it when Bitcoin moons.
