…and then there is still the issue of most streaming video providers who will only pass-through HD content to phones on their "approved $$" lists.
Never bothered putting mine in QHD in 4 years of having my S7
No. It literally is just to spec-pad and justify their continued higher prices. I've switched down to FHD on every QHD phone I've had just for the extra battery life.
Heres a video where they do a battery test between two phones, both are the exact same but one has a 1080p resolution vs the 1440p phone and the batter is the exact same https://youtu.be/ncPpM9tesPc
First of all, as everyone is pointing out, you should use a native 1080p display.
Secondly, the subjects need to have them side by side, otherwise it is just guess work for them. I bet most of them can tell which one is which if held side by side.
Thirdly, in my experience, in OLEDs with the Pentile matrix it is easier to spot the 1080p screen compared to LCDs. In my G2 and S4, I could definitely spot the pentile matrix in the S4, while the objects in G2 had super sharp edges.
Native 1080p vs native 1440p would have been better, when you switch a panel's resolution from 1440p native to 1080p there is a little blur on the scaling….and even knowing that it was a tie.
I had qhd and regret buying a bigger phone with FHD
Battery life is not drastically less on a 1440p display. The difference between FHD and QHD on battery life is about 1-2%, which can be within the margins of error
In comparrision i can see a difference between the resolution settings on my phone. But i think a real fhd display looks lower than a qhd display downscaled to fhd.
Its 2020 1080p its minimum. 1080p to 1440p it isnt that much of a difference on a small screen.
QHD vs FHD in such a small size, won't show a difference. But I still go for QHD even though I am not able to tell the difference ?. I just feel I am getting a higher quality content. I am getting that but not noticing it.
I have iPhone 7 plus and 1080p is more than enough ??
Netflix is in fhd and youtube vids are good & sharp, that’s all I care about
As I get older the difference isn't as big of a deal as it would be in a 5-6" display. I'd have to try setting my phone at a lower resolution for a while to know.
I got the iPhone 11 from mi 8 which is fhd + and I can frankly say I prefer the iphones screen. I think that people is getting too crazy about the specs at this point
Once you become usedto higher res and hz you cant go back " retina effect" had the oneplus 7 pro for nearly a year now 90hz and QHD , and i can instantly tell when using another or seing any other phone , my point also being, many of these people probably dont use high end phones allot and cannot tell the difference yet, because they dont even really know what to look for,
Should've used the pixel 4 and pixel 4 xl I think that would've highlighted the difference better
This was kinda dumb. I mean both of the phones still have QHD screens even if one is set to FHD in settings
I was using LG G5 which is QHD, now I'm using REDMİ K20 PRO (FHD). When I switched for the first time, I felt the sharpness difference directly. But after I used the K20 PRO as my main device for a few days I forgat the resolution difference. I was just admiring the colors of the AMOLED display. So, if you're not switching devices all the time you can not tell the difference.
My next phone will be FHD. My tablet is all the resolution I need.
0:50 waste my time. U should use real 1080p display.
Anything over 400ppi for phones and 300ppi for tablets is a waste of pixel density as well as battery and graphics processing power.
Much more important is dynamic range, color processing, and power efficiency.
fhd vs qhd makes no difference in battery life.
Totally agree, i dont watch shows, just YouTube videos at a reasonnable distance and i dont even notice it. I was the kind of guy revolted by iPhone definition but now i just see that my usage is not hardcore enough to notice it. I would rather have 120hz displays over QHD or even 4K now (Sony… Looking at you)
There's no need for it. The screen is so small your eyes cannot physically tell the difference. There's a reason why we don't get 4k TVs under 32inch, it would be pointless.
I want 8K panel for this years flagship or I am not buying. QHD is dinosaur tech at this point in time. The industry need to step up to the plate and give the average consumer what they want.
No and one plus has been proving this for some time now.
Yes. Yes they do.
Iphone xr is not even full hd but still has a nice display, my s10e has an incredible display and 1080p dynamic amoled is nice, but I have very sharp eyes because I am young (16) and would of preferred a 1440p display
It depends on the size of the display I am using a 5.7 inch display with hd+ resolution if I go with a bigger size display I would see pixels I think that fhd or fhd+ is good middle ground for screens bigger than 5.7 and good for the battery with no compromise
I don't think this comparison is fair.
There's a difference between a qhd screen dialed back to fhd, then a native fhd screen. The native fhd screen would look worse.
Man…
You have to take a Phone with a true FHD Display!!!
If you turn on the FHD mode there are nevertheless all pixels pushed.
You don't turn them off…
The GPU is just rendering the output in FHD.
In quad hd I can see all your pimples…in full hd barely any…which one matters then?
I'm watching this on my mi a3 and i can't complain. Funny thing, YouTube automatically scales down videos all the time. I guess it depends on internet speed? Very often videos are showed in 480 and even then, sometimes it's not THAT obvious… For reading text you can tell the difference. But even then I will choose a amoled with 286ppi over a lcd with 400ppi every day! Battery life is amazing!
My phone has 4k display!! Xperia z5 premium with 4k always on
You have to use Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ or S10+ to compare….Because Galaxy Quad HD disply is worth…Comapre between S10+ vs 1+7 for checking.
I'm satisfied with my pixel 3/1080 resolution. I'm more concern with the screen quality.
Dude i can f'n tell the difference… Easily
Would any of you guys be okay with a decent or good midrange phone with a 720 HD+ screen ?
I have owned galaxy S8 for over 2 years. I used QHD for first 2 days, then switched to FHD. I prefer the 2 hours of extra battery
No, it doesn't really matter… but you also didn't make clear about the video you had those people watch. If you had them watch a MKBHD video they'd immediately be able to distinguish the QHD display because of the crisper look… but if you had them watch cinematic-styled videos, of course they wouldn't be able to tell.
1440p all day long. 1080p just looks no where near as sharp (6.8" screen.) FHD+ looks good but going from one to the other is like refresh rate.
120hz 1440p s20 ultra next for me. Currently have the Note 10+ 5g (gotta love anytime upgrade)
(I'm talking drop from one to the other on the same screen 8" away from face)
Wow so many have bad eyes
Wrong question? They should ask if removing a jack is considered innovation.
Idc what you say, still waiting on 4k oled phones
Damnit, this guy is really damn good in all the stuff he speaks about, but what's wrong with his face?
I can completely understand most people wouldn't notice the difference, but it just boggles me so much how certain they feel when "guessing" wrong.
I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and can immediately tell the difference between 1080 and 1440p. I've tried staying on 1080p multiple times but always ended up going back to 1440p after hours.
QHD is a nonsense for 6-7 inch displays. It's noticable in 15+ inch displays.
