As probably the only other tech-creator with his own wallpaper app too (WallpaperZ that we’ve launched exactly 1 year ago), I’m extremely familiar with the entire development process. From all the difficulties, the stress, the wins and the losses.
Therefore, here are my in-depth thoughts on MKBHD’s Panels Wallpaper app, highlighting our own journey, as well as both our positives and negatives and where things can be improved.
At the end of the day, we're all in this together. Trying to make a better place for creators and users alike. The approaches can always be refined and improved and no app is perfect at launch. Would love to hear your thoughts as well!

And now you've gotten me interested in downloading an app for wallpapers, your own by the way
your app seems incredible. i will download it as soon as my new phone arrives.
WallpaperZ is a lesson of what to do to make a wall paper app and Panels is equally a lesson of what NOT to do to make a wall paper app.
This doesn’t make sense creators and photographers get paid next to nothing for their content. MKBHD is literally giving creators a space to earn income on their work why are we so against that? Im not a mkbhd fan im a photographer that gets paid pennies for pictures on stock images. So I appreciate a new space to potentially pay the bills. Either way u can subscribe for the month and literally cancel the sub if u dont plan to swap wallpapers often. Support the Creators

One more feature that you don’t have is OPEN-API to directly download wallpapers.
Anyone who pays $50/year for something you already have easy access to is someone with more money than sense. Take a damn picture that makes you feel good and use that. I would definitely use the Zone of Tech wallpaper app over Panels.
out of all the apps he could have made a a tech person lol
Wallpaper Apps are stupid

Unsplash is just top tier. and i wish i was sponsored to say that
I just tried both Panels and Wallpaperz for the first time. Trust me your app is thousand times better than Panels. Going to delete Panels and keep Wallpaperz. Still can't accept the fact that a person like MKBHD done such thing.
U guys shoulf do something constructive and useful instead of wallpaper
if an app asks me to sign up without skipping it's a easy uninstall right away. why should i sign up for something when i have no idea what i'm getting!
Great you think a wallpaper app is a sophisticated thing to do.
Is it true that Pannels uses NFTs as original wallpapers?
So ive been using wallpaperz for a while, it had no idea its yours.

You did this tastefully. Clearly you want to show your app as being better. I think you did that without trying to speak down on his app. You seem to have genuinely lined your apps up against each other and believe your app is a better value. With your app being out for a year, you’ve had more time to improve your product. You also offer a lifetime membership for about 60% of the cost of his annual subscription. Unless he offers a higher quality product within his app, your app does seem to be a much better value. His pay structure seems to be better, which may add to way his cost is higher though.

Wallpaper app review by another wallpaper app guy
Paying for wallpapers is a bit crazy, but i see it as a support to creators.
@ZoneofTech Good comparison as unbiased as you can! I have a suggestion for your wallpaper app which I have used. As much as I love it I think you should really invest in putting some animated wallpapers in it, they don't have to be crazy but just subtle, simple and elegant. Since animated is very expensive make it only available to subscribers have it in mp4 and gif formats so people can use them on any device as they wish. Just my suggestion!
If you did decide to implement my suggestion and have some sick looking backgrounds I would subscribe right now. You rarely get to see backgrounds as you're in an app or browser etc so the few times you do see the background it should be alive.
I always use wallpapers sourced from my own phone's camera output. I feel that it makes it more authentic and also it's you and your phone's output
your UI is waayyy better
I'm on android and tried your wallpapers app but honestly there's nothing nice there. It's all Ai created cartoony stuff which you can find in a million wallpapers apps
Wallpapers = no ads, enough said
no f$ck!ng way I will pay $50 for wallpapers…
look who's talking
I see people commenting here about how crazy a 20 min video for a wallpaper app is. Brotha get outta the video if you don't wanna watch. Endless trolls. Endless.
It’s a wallpaper lol get over it. These YouTubers my god
Why the hell would anyone use either of these apps?? It's literally a default feature of any phone/ computer to set whatever wallpaper/background/lockscreen you want. If you pay for any of this you are missing braincells.
i would like some newsletter from my wallpaper app that's what i've been missing in my life
People don’t need a wallpaper app lol girls normally have pictures of their selfs , kids or pets and guys get on wallpaper and stays with it for a whole year lol
who tf buys wallpaper in 2024?
Your app sucks too bruh the design is horrible should have gone with panels design
His No.1 Golden Rule has gone out the window.
20 minutes for a wallpaper review.
This review is a lecture on how to make good content. I bet you could review a toilet paper and have me watch it all. Great video, super fair comparison, and congrats to your team for the really nice app and concept.
Should have titled this: "Panels: Barely Usable" to match MKBHD's Rabbit R1 review.
