“This car’s mission is to go fast. And a hybrid matching the electric motor in the front and the ICE in the rear is meant to go fast. Yes, it has some benefits of being slightly more environmentally friendly. But this is not a Prius.”

STORYLINE:
Chevrolet is celebrating Corvette’s 70th birthday with an electrified version of the storied sports car.
And it is the fastest production model yet.
The E-Ray jerks your head back as it goes from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. It can cover a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.
The E-Ray is a gas-electric hybrid, the first all-wheel-drive version of the Corvette. The front wheels run on a battery.
It is aimed at affluent buyers who want new technology in the top-line Chevy sports car.
“It’s a pretty elegant solution that a few automakers have taken. And this is going to propel the Corvette to a new set of markets,” said Mark Wakefield, an automotive analyst with AlixPartners.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray goes on sale this year, with an MSRP of $104,295 for the 1LZ coupe.
Production will take place at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly facility in Kentucky.
The Corvette debuted debuted in 1953 at Motorama in New York City.
