  1. Roll the valves! Headfi has a dedicated valve rolling thread. Those Chinese valves are shite. Let the amp warm up. Leave it on for a few hours for it to sound proper.

  2. What is the output into 300 and 600 ohms? "Tube magic" only goes so far. My tube amp clearly states "900mw/300 ohms"…the dark voice doesn't post specs. That's misleading, because it will not sound right without real output. The specs state "1 watt". Ok, BFD. A robust headphone amp will state 4 watts, just to produce 900mw-1w into 300 ohms.

  3. If you use the headphone out on your phone, you're using the built in headphone amplifier… This completely defeats the purpose.

  4. Someday I'll design a KT88 power amp plugged into some nice Hi-Fi speakers in a cool sounding room to play mi CDs, tapes, and vinyls. Maybe I'll even use a Hiwatt Custom 100 turned up just for a very slight breakup, and then attenuated. Until then, my cheap Superlux headphones and my Focusrite Scarlett will have to do.

  5. If you want analogish warmth you should invest in a tube amp, or you could go the less expensive rout which is learning how to put good warm eq setting. To add warmth I usually just take away some stuff from the terbble side. I don't recommend tube dacs for people who only like digital sound. There are other dacs that are more for digital sounding audio and do not add analogish warmth out there. With eqs that have a wider range of controlls you can controll more like how much middle/warmth there is. I suggest getting Vox player if you use a digital device for music listening as it is the most hifi one for Mac and ios I have used and itunes sounds terrible in comparison. iTunes bassicly makes songs how a band would not want you to hear a song L0L and its not accurate, but Vox player is. I also suggest getting a portable external harddrive before you run out of space and then move lots to it and then you can play stuff stored from it.

  6. There is one thing I have noticed versus tubes and even older audio equipment that was 70s oriented like pioneer and Marantz units they had a warmer richer tone to them as opposed to the digitized synthesized stuff they have now

  7. +Unbox Therapy I'm a huge Sennheiser fan and I'm looking for some good quality studio headphones that I could also use for everyday listening. What do you recommend?
    Thanks.

  8. Holy cow this guy doesn't know anything about audio/ headphones /amps and reviewing tube amps with cell phone and those headphones! And these views!! Why!!!!!!

  9. lol it would be better if you knew anything about music before you start reviewing things like this.
for fuck sake. hip hop.. good thing you werent testing this on justin bieber.
    you dont need this machine.
    srsly. what a fking waste

  10. 10 years ago, in the chinese head fi circle, this is one of the best valued amp to drive the top tier senheiser (hd650/600), and was very popular. Surprised to know that it's not obsolete yet!
BTW, it will sound better if you allow it to warm up for 10-15mins, and worth playing with the tubes, which won't improve the sound quality by much (PRAT i'm talking about) but smoother sounding to your like

  11. WTF, don't you need to let the tubes warm up BEFORE you start listening to get a top tier sound? Also what kind of a (SOURCE} is a damn phone? You say which ever sound you like is subjective but don't you think ANYBODY would prefer a more full warm sound compared to a (MACHINED} sound?
