9. I think this is the writers' way of quietly sending away Samantha Smith (Mary Winchester) who is poorly received by both fans and critics. John will be with Mary again, thus both will have a happy ending allowing Sam and Dean to believe there can be retirement after life as hunters.

   But there will probaly still be 5 more seasons after this XD.
